Winter Was Here

The wind blew in and I knew it then

Winter was here

And now I get to choose

Which perspective occupies my view

Winter is cold

Winter is harsh

It numbs your soul

Ices you dry – to the bone

Until all that’s left

Are the aching shivers

And the rock-walled heart you built

To fight back with

Bitterness spilling from the edges

Of your lips, as they quiver

OR

Winter is refreshing, so rest

Winter is clarity, breathe it in

There is peace in the space

Between every falling flake

In the quiet, in the whisper

Your heart begins to wake

And all that remains

Is who you have always been

Without the weights

Without the chains

Just you and Him

Listen closely as He sings

As the snow fell, I knew it then

Winter was here

And my heart came alive to the words

Let’s begin again…

I took this picture in January of 2018, in the woods near the lake in Thomson, Georgia, USA. I rushed out of the house early that morning. Looking like a complete vision with mixed-matched PJ's, with a scarf and beanie that couldn't quite fit together. But it was SNOWING! And I had to take it all in... the quiet. The peace. His presence. It felt like kisses from a Good God!
